EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY ULTRA ENDURANCE CHALLENGE 2016
In September 2016, Edge Hill University will be hosting a 40 mile (64 km) ULTRA ENDURANCE RACE . The race will combine competition and science to provide the ideal environment to conduct nutrition research. Consequently places will be reserved for ultra-endurance runners who are able to take part as a research participant.
Eligibility for research: Research participants, must be aged between 18 and 60 years and will need to have completed 1 ultra endurance event or 2 marathon distance races in the last 3 years. The research study will assess the effectiveness of two different pre-race diets for ultra endurance performance and metabolism. Therefore participants must be:
Fit to take part in the 40 mile (64 km) race on Saturday the 10th September 2016
Willing to follow a tailored diet plan for 10 days prior to the race
Able to attend Edge Hill University on 2 separate occasions prior to the race, for fitness assessment and dietary intervention
Able to complete 2 electronic food diaries and a nutrition questionnaire at set intervals
Able to attend a pre-race breakfast meeting
OPTIONAL: take part in a short focus group or interview immediately after the race finishes
In return, you will receive your individual results from the diet and fitness assessment including comprehensive nutritional analysis, VO2max test, lactate threshold test and body composition analysis worth £235 All food and fluids for during the race will be provided to meet your nutritional needs, including a pre-race meal and post race recovery meal. In addition all finishers will receive a race pack including t-shirt and medal.
